Dr. Makenzie Steenerson
Here’s something many Cottage Grove families may not know about me. It’s a story that’s shaped everything I do—and it’s why I’m so passionate about helping parents and kids thrive naturally.
I grew up in a chiropractic household. Both my parents were chiropractors—Dad ran a busy practice where I watched patients transform, and Mom kept our home running on natural healthcare principles: real food, holistic remedies, and adjustments whenever we needed them. From as young as seven, I was hooked. I’d devour books on anatomy and science, fascinated by how the body works and heals itself. That passion never faded—it became my dream.
Fast-forward: I studied for 3.5 years at St. Cloud State University, then earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2016. I’m licensed in Minnesota, nationally board-certified, and even a DOT Certified Medical Examiner for those commercial driver physicals.

But nothing prepared me for how personal this journey would get once I became a mom. Our son Gideon arrived in 2018—happy, healthy, everything perfect. Then in summer 2020, we welcomed Daphne. She started out great too: sleeping well, all the good baby milestones. But when she began eating solids in early 2021, everything changed. Severe eczema flared up—itchy, red, bleeding from scratching. She couldn’t sleep, and neither could we. We tried every cream, lotion, and suggestion from her pediatrician. Nothing worked. They said she’d probably “grow out of it,” but watching my baby suffer? I couldn’t just wait.
A close family friend suggested chiropractor who utilized sensitivity testing. We had her gently checked and adjusted, removed trigger foods, added targeted supplements—and within 6-8 weeks, her skin cleared completely. She slept through the night for the first time in 10 months of her life. It was a game-changer for our whole family. Today, Daphne is a 5-year-old spunky spitfire kindergartener who’s willing to try anything at least once and is constantly singing her heart out, filling the house with songs (made-up or otherwise!).
Then came Gideon’s turn. As he approached preschool, we noticed serious speech issues—an articulation disorder that made him hard to understand outside our home. We started speech therapy, but progress was slow. We saw pediatricians, dentists, ENTs, speech therapists—everyone kept confirming a mild tongue tie and that “he’ll grow out of it”.
I knew something more needed to be done. After years of pushing and coordinating with multiple providers, we finally discovered a myofunctional therapist that gave us the verbiage we needed to get this procedure scheduled. We got it revised just a month before his 5th birthday and kindergarten start—and suddenly, his speech exploded. He’s now 7, absolutely obsessed with math and engineering—always building, calculating, and figuring out how things work.
Today, my husband and I live in Edina with Gideon, Daphne, and our derpy 75-pound fluffball Gin—our 2-year-old Alaskan Malamute girl who’s basically a third kid with her goofy antics and zoomies. Chiropractic didn’t just become my career—it became my mission. Especially for families like yours in Cottage Grove. I’ve seen kids’ clear eczema, boost immunity, recover faster from injuries, and develop stronger. I’ve seen parents get energy back, reduce pain, and enjoy life more. Your body—and your kids’ bodies—are capable of so much more than you might realize. Whenever you’re ready, my team and I at Oasis are here to help you discover it.
I tailor care to what each person needs—super gentle, low-force Activator Methods (I’m proficiency-rated with advanced training). Perfect for kids, pregnant mamas, seniors, or anyone wanting precise care without the “crack.” But I also offer traditional hands-on adjustments for those who prefer a more direct approach. Plus, Instrument Massage (aka Graston or scraping) for soft tissue work to ease knots and speed recovery.
I don’t heal anyone—I simply clear nerve interference so your body can do what it’s designed to: heal itself. And the results? Mind-blowing. We’re located at 7424 E Point Douglas Rd S (right next to Rocco’s Pizza, one block south of McDonald’s). Call us at (651) 458-5565 to schedule—I work alongside the incredible Dr. Eric Hahn and Dr. Alex Sheppard.
